Lync Deployment Update - 2013 Is On Its Way!
Well it’s been a busy few weeks since my last post so I’ve got lots of news.
Firstly we’ve just finished a large Microsoft Lync 2010 installation for a large food processing and manufacturer business where we have deployed a range of new dual stack SIP Polycom phones. These are the Polycom VVX500 and the Spectra link 8440 wireless handset.
This new “Dual Stack” firmware allows the phone to register with Microsoft Lync but also any Sip compliant IP PBX so the customer has more options than when using the specific Lync handsets. Using Dialogic gateways in front of the existing PBX’s we’ve given the customer a seamless migration path from the existing legacy PBX environment to Lync 2010.
The Spectra link wireless handsets come ruggedised and offer very flexible communication options for the non-desk based worker who needs a handset. The device even sends and receives instant messages! Utilising the existing customers WLAN environment means we can replace the existing legacy DECT environment with ease!
We’ve also been busy installing and testing Lync 2013... We love the new functions and it really shows that Microsoft have listened to the feedback from partners and customers and given us what we want in a full Unified Communication product. This includes much better group video function with tiled pictures, easier High Availability with SQL mirroring and lots lots more.
