The Only Way is Up!
Am I Being Overly Optimistic? Do I Just Want to Believe it?
My gut and my general sense, backed by some indicators, tell me we are leaving this horrible period behind, week by week there are consistent indicators. Unemployment has dropped to 14.2%. The Minister for Jobs and Innovation has announced a new Visa scheme to attract people from abroad into companies which need their skills for scale. The tax take is on plan (although I notice a report in this morning’s Irish Times stating that albeit in line with expectations, it is 8.4% down on the same period last year). Exports are at record levels and we seem to be making progress on renegotiating our debts. Progress although slow, is being made in reducing costs in the Public Sector. By any measure this all adds up to reasons for being optimistic!
It’s time for growth, time to build quality high earning sustainable businesses, which require high-end sustainable jobs. Businesses need to build for the future, treading water is no longer a strategy, cost containment is not sustainable, my belief is that companies who are brave today will be rewarded in 10,15, 20 years’ time.
I have recently started reading the John Collins book ‘Good to Great’. In this book, Collins uncovers the underlying variables that enable any type of organisation to make the leap from good to great, while other organisations remain only good. I’m strongly of the opinion that it’s time to stretch, we need to be a great organisation in every aspect of what we do.
Whilst we move into this new phase of economic history we need to have confidence, we need to ensure we build a more robust economy which can sustain the shock of world disasters, we should never forget what the last five years has done, but it’s time to move on.
On the 31st of January, over 200 IT professionals attended our 20-20 Vision event (watch the highlights video) in Croke Park – all in search of ways to deepen customer relationships, improve business processes, and drive employee productivity. Due to its popularity, we are taking 20-20 Vision to Cork, join us in the Radisson BLU, Little Island on the 24th of April and set your course for the future. Secure your place by registering today.
