Why Move from Google Apps to Office 365?

Why Move from Google Apps to Office 365?

Some customers have recently asked. Why move from Google Apps to Office 365? In response to this question, I've listed a number of core reasons below.

Why Use Office 365?

  1. Privacy:  
    Microsoft's privacy policy says they will not scan your data or provide information to third parties. On the other hand, Google's privacy policy states they can use information they collect from you for advertising purposes. For companies based in Europe, Microsoft can guarantee that their Office 365 customer's data resides in the European Union whereas Google cannot offer such a guarantee.
  2. Development of Each Platform:
    Google Apps has remained static for quite some time and has not offered any new features or ground breaking announcements. Office 365 keeps getting better and better and has responded to customer requests for new features like Office 365 portal branding, self-service user password resets, multi factor authentication, active directory rights management and increased storage quotas. Each quarter new features are consistently announced by the Office 365 team.
  3. Storage: 
    Google gives you 15 GB shared across Gmail, Google Drive and Google+. By today’s standards, that really isn’t all that large. The Office 365 Enterprise E3 plan, on the other hand, comes with 50 GB of email storage and unlimited archiving. For storing documents ‘in the Cloud’ you get 25 GB of SkyDrive Pro storage per user. You can buy extra storage for SharePoint for just twenty cents per GB.
  4. Licensing:
    Office 365 offers many different licensing plans and Ergo can assist in selecting the right Office 365 plan for you. Some companies choose Exchange Online only, or some want to use SharePoint Online only. If a customer has an Office 365 plan that includes Microsoft Office. Then that user can use Office on 5 different devices, such as a laptop, business virtual desktop, iPhone, windows phone or tablet.
  5. Client Applications:
    Use Google Docs or Google Spreadsheets and then try Microsoft Office or Microsoft Office Web Apps. There really is no comparison. Microsoft also have Office 365 applications for Apple IOS and Android. So you really can consume your data securely from anywhere and on any device. Microsoft OneNote can store your notes in SkyDrive making them always available
  6. Compliance:
    Microsoft eDiscovery Center in SharePoint Online can search across a complete tenant for sensitive data and place items on legal hold. It can search across all SharePoint, SkyDrive, email and Lync data in minutes. 
  7. Enterprise Social Networking:
    Yammer users can have Yaminars and enjoy integration with Office 365. 
  8. Support:
    Have you ever needed to call Google Apps Support? If so you may have had to wait 20 - 50 minutes on the phone and then after waiting that long, not get a very helpful response! Ergo are a Microsoft Gold Accelerate Partner and we provide Office 365 support for all of our Office 365 customers. As a Microsoft Cloud Accelerate Partner, Ergo has access to a dedicated support team in Microsoft which allows Ergo to quickly resolve support issues.
