In one of his first outings as Microsoft’s new CEO, Satya Nadella will next week unveil the Office for iPad app as part of Microsoft’s ‘mobile first, cloud first’ strategy.
The iPad version of Office will be similar to the iPhone version, requiring an Office 365 subscription for editing.
A long-time advocate of cloud strategy for businesses, Nadella is understood to be marking new territory ahead of Microsoft’s crucial Build developer conference on 2 April, where the new Windows Phone 8.1 will also be unveiled.
Insights into the shape of Windows 9 will also be provided at Build.
The 'Mobile First, Cloud First' press event will be Nadella’s first official public engagement since he was appointed CEO last month.
Nadella has spent 22 years at Microsoft, having joined the company in 1992. He has led a number of Microsoft’s biggest technical achievements, most notably the company’s move to the cloud, and the development of one of the largest cloud infrastructures in the world supporting Bing, Xbox and Microsoft Office, among other services.
